We want to thank everyone for responding with such enthusiasm to our request for feedback on practices we can adopt companywide to make GS & P as well as our environment 'greener'.  Our mission to become more 'green' is obviously very important to all of you and we appreciate your support as well as your great ideas.

The following are some of those ideas generated by our clever staff and we know we can count on you to join with us in executing these practices in the New Year!

Utilizing New Communications Technology

"In an effort to be greener & more budget friendly we have adopted a new program called Web Ex which allows you to conference via your computer screen along with telephone.  It allows you to upload documents, sketches, plans etc so that everyone on the call can follow along easily via their computer."  -Niki Bennet

Evaluating and Improving the Offices Energy Efficiency

"I met with 3 different providers to get costs for the water filtration system to move away from bottled water.  We should be able to decide easily and our cost should be $10-$20 less per month.

I have prices to replace our copier for a more updated and energy efficient model.  Also to minimize toner and paper waste.   The maintenance costs will also be less per month.

I did not realize how many lights were left on in the office after hours so if I leave late I make a point to turn off all of the high ceiling lights.  We also need to look into more energy efficient lights for the high ceiling lights which as of now burn 100 watts per hour and reach a temp of 150 degrees each per the FPL representative who was out last week for the energy survey." - Anita Wurster

"I’m working on establishing GSP’s carbon footprint baseline and plan to make recommendations to reduce it.  I’m working on this on my own time and will report back when I have something.  I would like to be able to show some reduction over the next year." - Tammy O'Rourke

Recycling

"Before recycling printed 8x11 paper, tear it up into 4 rectangles and use as scrap paper instead of post-its when you can.  Also Any paper that cannot be used, i.e. jammed paper, rolls that are damaged and cannot be used, I take it to my kid’s daycare, they use it as banner paper or coloring paper."   -Jessica Gomes

"I volunteer my time to take the paper to the recycle dumpster".   - Anita Wurster

Car Pooling

"I started carpooling once a week with a co-worker in my neighborhood.  We're hoping  to recruit a few more people driving from the Jupiter area and make it a daily carpool in 09." - Josh Hanna

The Little Things...

"If I have to print time reports for the backup files I try to print double sided." - Anita Wurster
